"Working with an existing house is a process of discovery and editing. We have been fortunate to spend enough time with it to listen and learn about what it really wanted to be." Secreted away behind a palette of ornamental grasses, living screens with an entryway in the form of a bridge, Architect Richard Orne reconfigured a simple 1950 cinderblock home for organic indoor/outdoor movement. Seen through custom steel doors from the living room, master bedroom, and office/bedroom are views of a tranquil garden of pampas plumes and a twenty foot waterway. A garden shed has been transformed into a masterful bathroom, an opus of stone, wood and light. Vertical grain Douglas fir is integrated throughout as walls, built-ins, kitchen cabinets and the breath stopping front door. This house is exactly what it should be; every detail a meditation.
